The Periodic Table tells us water and oil don’t really like each other. Much like what we are witnessing in today’s Hatfield-McCoy like feud between the BC and Alberta governments. West Coast (First Nations) Environmentalists versus the prairie Crude Oil Industrialists… Eco-Protectionist’s versus the (Canadian) Alberta Oil Economy.
Now with the Federal Court “enforcing its own blockade” on the Trans Mountain Pipeline, AB Premiere Rachel Notely is going to pick up her marbles and walk away from the National Climate Plan. #FoodFightPolitics
I wonder if our presumptuous Prime Minister experienced any recurring nightmares over this Labour Day Weekend; further comatized by US NAFTA talks slippin’ & slidin’ away.
Note: To be fair Councillor Clark has not made his mayoral candidacy official. Maybe he is waiting to see just how much feeler support there is before tossing his “horse trading stetson” into the mayoral ring. If Councillor Clark is running for mayor he and Buchanan would be running from a parallel kindred slate coveting more and more DENSITY continuing to turn their backs on NIMBY’s. #enoughDensty
Councillor Buchanan has voted in favour of EVERY new highrise except for her recent mayoral campaign’s ‘the fix is in’ new Harry Jerome Mega Sports Complex allowing Darwin’s takeover of the existing HJ Lands. And lest we forget IGNORING EVERY neighbourhood petition and helping to make a mockery out of every highrise public hearing. Forever voting against resident concerns like Hollyburn’s new apartment building, allowing them to buy at below market value our city hall’s hovering density air in order to increase the height of “her” Hollyburn donor’s 13th & Lonsdale Marlborough 3 Commercial Apartment highrise from 12 to 17 floors! #disingenuous
The same can be said about Councillor Clark who is on record for towering “community” horse trading with developers. Two key huge projects come to mind; Polygon’s new Promenade Lower Lonsdale tower featuring a horse trading swap for extra floors blocking more area condo views in order to get the North Van Museum & Archives “squeezed” into a confined main floor space! And if you want to epitomize horse trading we need to look no further than the about to be built 32 & 26 towering Darwin project in order to finance his damn $210+ million Titanic MegaDome Sporting Facility having “turned his back”, crapping on the majority of the Harry Jerome Community who are dead against both projects. #screwNIMBYS
Is either councillor the kind of mayor you want i.e. bound & determined to further entrap our city into further highrise development. Two infamous city councillors who don’t give a damn about NIMBY concerns having divorced themselves from Regional Growth Strategy Levels surpassing 2041 census. Promoting Bike to Work Black Necklace lanes used by less than 2% of city residents OVER our city’s dire, unable to keep pace infrastructures. While also deliberately limiting residential and commercial street parking at ALL “their” construction & noise polluting sites beholding to “their” heavy equipment vehicles closing off residential street parking & causing constant lane closures… No, then simply vote for change October 20th. #weCANdoBetter #noMoreDensity
Translink feels all we need “to hold us over” on yonder North Shore is a couple more buses and one more scheduled seabus during peak hours…. sounds fair if you live in Surrey or looking for a new rail transit extension from Broadway to UBC. #ScrewNorthShore
NOW that we know the North Shore is not a priority with the Translink brass and with traffic and commuter congestion at an all time precedent high. Our transportation problems can only IMPLODE then EXPLODE since Translink will not be seriously addressing our dire transportation issues until MAYBE Phase 3 – ten years from now!
Our North Shore cities (especially CNV) must STOP all new “proposed” high rise development like: Darwin’s HJ Lands as we now know is SHORT ON CASH and “is going to take WTF 8+ years to complete!” A project strongly opposed during the last Town Hall Meeting. A development in total disregard to OCP zoning height restrictions and will further handicap our traffic woes, increase street parking shortages and further contribute to our city bus overloads – all in the name of North Van Fornication.
Same holds true re: $160+ million HJ MegaDome that will take 3+ YEARS to complete and will be SHARING 23rd Street with Darwin’s en masse development! #RenovateHarryJeromeRecCentre #ItCanBeDone
We are running low on green spaces, trapped in traffic gridlock all day amidst TransLink shortcomings! #NoNorthShoreReliefInsight
We are in a transportation crisis on the North Shore – Translink and our NDP parliamentary secretary responsible for TransLink MLA Ma seemingly could care less… and the same can be said about our infamous mayor & his subordinate city planners! The Translink Phase Two Investment Plan has very little to offer in the way of transportation relief on the North Shore! #NothingWillChange #NorthShoreSOL
In today’s blog I’m going out on the limb hoping most will see the historic humour and apropos sarcasm in my copy and re-worked NVCV banner.
The North Van City Voices Blog should maybe change (in the short term) their name to the DISTRICT VOICES! (much like the NSNews should change its name to NS District Rag) Re: WELCOMING the news the District of North Vancouver is making a new as in – nothing has changed – at amalgamating with the City of North Vancouver. This from a blog that says it is non-political – doesn’t take sides – really. A seemingly “pro District blog” supporting power to the (Bolshevik) District City Council over our city council democracy – promoting “anarchy” or is it a District revolution er amalgamation coup! And with a wanton District amalgamation/revolution on the horizon will we be looking at a plebiscite aka Red October 20th Ballot Box. #DNVBolshevikRevolution
In the 2014 city elections the only pro amalgamation mayoral candidate was George Pringle and he received less than a thousand votes with mayor Mussatto squeaking out victory over Kerry Morris who was neither for or against. As one fellow coffee mate gal put it to me recently “is Kerry running as a double agent”. But in all fairness he further iterated the matter needs a detailed examination which we should do. But your current “elected city council” insists nothing has changed, so what further detailed examination is necessary when “nothing has changed?”
Also on election night besides Morris and possibly Pringle running for mayor there will be at least two more candidates… “Someone” from the NSCAA as in maybe Guy Heywood who in his archived blog was all for amalgamation thus leaving WTH wannabe mayor Linda Buchanan the only one seemingly opposed to the reunification of the two cities.
Hey little sister city – it’s a nice day to start again… Potential District Coup White Wedding Unplugged Theme Song?
Tonight’s city council fight card features: Property Tax Rate Increases, Drinking Water Conservation Plan Bylaw and two Public Hearings. First up addressing bylaws prohibiting Mary Jane non-medicinal Cannabis Production via BCLDB city sales then forwarded to a Public Hearing.
The second Public Hearing entertains the density onslaught at 2601 where the developer Pezzente Holdings and GBL Architects present their case for wanting to ROB a long withstanding green space, expand their development over a lane thus hindering all emergency vehicle accessibility. While in the same breath tooting i.e. farting: REDUCED MID RENTAL RATES BASED ON 2016 NUMBERS against when finished in late 2019 early 2020 the guaranteed much higher rental rate being closer to OVER 2K A MONTH! #cnvSOL
Meanwhile just up the street DNVC Council will be proposing to induct a very “one-sided” city council reunification survey between our two cities. The logistics make since from their perspective with little left in their financial reserve tank, and having green stamped large areas from potential development. So who do you bust for future density growth and financial stability – why of course North Vancouver City! #UpYours!
I am amused by the likes of District councillor Bassam in the NS Rag preaching the advantages in the reunification between the two cities. Does this mean he and his District are willing to pay for half of the proposed new $160+ million Harry Jerome Centre – think not. Instead they would prefer to deflect such issues and prop city service duplication’s as why we should be merging kin. Which of course has little bearing on some of the real reasons like: little density left at the District Inn, suspect financial reserves and a seemingly lack of identity without a business and social waterfront gathering centre OR a $140 million grab-bag their city council would dearly love to gorge. #GetStuffed
Metro Vancouver’s board of directors voted themselves a healthy retirement allowance and a hefty pay adjustment. “We’re not trying to have more take-home pay, we’re just trying to keep the next elected group at the same pay as they are today,” says board chairman or is it con man – Greg Moore. #BloodSuckers #NoVotesRecorded
DNVC mayor Walton did not vote for these pay increases… or did he?… KNOWING in advance that the majority of Metro Vancouver mayors were in favour – ready to bonus their (retirement) salary chest’s. Today we live in a “cloaked unrecorded incriminating political arena”… Too bad… if only we could send them or at least mayor Mussatto to jail for just one day for all his public money grabbing without “Public Input” – sound familiar CNV residents. #disingenuous
Why are Mussatto’s expenses so high coming from a (hypocrite) mayor who insists we should be walking, cycling or taking transit to work.
The Trans Mountain pipeline expansion is gushing into an Oiler Notely/Hulk Horgan no holds barred showdown, right down to the last drop of wine…err oil. There is no BC/Alberta media shortage on this issue so will let one of my online sources CBC take over my editorial copy that led to today’s editorial cartoon…
Noteworthy: “BC Winery TIME” produces bottles of Pinot Gris and Cabernet Merlot with the Flames’ distinctive flaming “C” logo on the wine label, along with the slogan “It’s Go TIME.” (apparently Premier Notely isn’t a “Flames Fan?)
