The intent of my editorial cartoon blog was to bring awareness i.e. getting citizens more engaged in local city politics. Of course not everyone will agree with my POV in just how convoluting, disconnected and polarized our city politics has sorely succumbed under our mayor’s “4 to 3” Team Slate and by our other remaining city Councillor’s horse trading practices. City Hall is no longer “the voice of the people, rather the compliant bought and paid voice of our mayor’s donor pals.”
And now it has just elected a mirror image of what has brought down this city over the last 4 years when it comes to densification, unaffordability, displacing low income renters while its residents are helplessly left choking in commuter gridlock! A city willing to convolute and sell its soul to vulturous developers – “staying the course!”

Welcome to North Van City: where reality is not always what is deemed.

With the advent of mystacheonline.com blog coming to an official end, drifting on the WordPress internet airwaves … And having now been able to easily sustain (see video) and enjoy residency in downtown Cochrane AB; there really has been no need to continue a blog themed and targeting the NVCHall and Council., i.e. meet the new boss same as the damn old boss continuum. #cnvSOL
I thought I would take the time and compile 140 from the over 500 satirical caricatured themed blogs I created. As always when creating a new blog I would make sure music was ever so present in the background. It was no different composing this final video. Good music always took the edge off any frustration, disappointment or disbelief over the collusion, corruption and backroom politicking from our previous NIMBY disconnected and sanctimonious city council.
Ex-mayor Mussatto and nightmayor Buchanan may think they have had the last laugh having defeated the intent of my blog… But the fact will always remain – anytime “they” or anyone does a web search or does an image search of either ex-mayor Mussatto or nightmayor Buchanan my characterization of them will always be there, over & over again – ha, ha.
My 15 minutes of CNV caricature fame is over…
The intent of my blog was to engage and that it did, having now over 149K views! I realize along the way I’ve had my share of critics and haters while at the same time giving them a media outlet they would not have otherwise had.
To the supporters of my cartoon blog I will forever be grateful and indebted. For it was your steadfast enthusiasm and encouragement that kept me at the digital drawing board day in, day out….
But this is no longer my city, it is on a due course I as a senior artist cannot follow or bank on.
Here is my last curtain call dedicated to our infamous mayor – Density Darrell R. Mussatto… the stage is all yours one last time – Grinch.
None of life’s strings can last
So I must be on my way
And face another day. (Harrison)…
Where affordability is always at play. (Stache)
The residents of CNV have spoken… WANTING EVEN MORE EN MASSE DENSITY, TRAFFIC CONGESTION, UNAFFORDABLE HOUSING and DEVELOPER COLLUSION that will only further grease its farcical OCP… Tolling Linda Buchanan’s as its next night-mayor. Someone who as her 2014/2018 City Council record pledgedly pro ports: will CONTINUE IGNORING RESIDENT’S CONCERNS and PETITIONS and BOWING DOWN to the DEMANDS of her VULTUROUS DEVELOPERS – Congratulations! #SellOutBuchanan #cnvSOL
Wannabe night-mayor Linda Buchanan… you know the one who tried to pull the wool over everybody’s eyes by voting against her buddy developer Darwin Construction by not voting in favour in the devastation of the Harry Jerome Neighbourhood. KNOWING DAMN WELL non city resident Councillor Holly Back was in favour of the project thus enabling an uncanny swing in favour of the 800+ residential log jam increase to the community and guaranteeing a $237+ million Harry Jerome Sportsplex! #timeToChangeCourse #Vote4ChangeOct20
Our developer donor indebted mayor and “unelected” city clerk, new CEO and in-Epp OCP Planning Director have had more than enough time since July 23rd’s last meeting to over agenda-size and proceed to ramrod their hyper-density agenda through tonight’s expected (yawn) city council 4 1/2 to 5 hour meeting. And don’t expect the 3 remaining city council meetings to show any less mercy when it comes to pushing through the mayor’s Manhattan CityShaping final and Last Testament…. all aboard.
The Periodic Table tells us water and oil don’t really like each other. Much like what we are witnessing in today’s Hatfield-McCoy like feud between the BC and Alberta governments. West Coast (First Nations) Environmentalists versus the prairie Crude Oil Industrialists… Eco-Protectionist’s versus the (Canadian) Alberta Oil Economy.
Now with the Federal Court “enforcing its own blockade” on the Trans Mountain Pipeline, AB Premiere Rachel Notely is going to pick up her marbles and walk away from the National Climate Plan. #FoodFightPolitics
I wonder if our presumptuous Prime Minister experienced any recurring nightmares over this Labour Day Weekend; further comatized by US NAFTA talks slippin’ & slidin’ away.
Earlier this month there was an interesting Vancouver Sun online article by Kennedy Stewart: “Time to get big money out of Vancouver City Hall for good.” He is also running as an independent in their 2018 mayoral race. Stewart’s mayoral platform revolves around 4 measures in how to improve local city democracy while strengthening and enhancing public trust in their city-council decisions regarding development. https://vancouversun.com/opinion/op-ed/kennedy-stewart-time-to-get-big-money-out-of-vancouver-city-hall-for-good?video_autoplay=true
His four measures: 1. Time for cooling-off rules, 2. Tighten conflict of interest, 3. Implement lobbyist registry, 4. Daylight campaign financing – which from my POV should be mandatory in our upcoming city elections – wouldn’t you agree wannabe mayor Linda Buchanan.
Measures asserting transparent democracy back into our local politics… Which of course will never see the light of day, in any of our remaining four: good riddance 2014 convoluting city council meetings.
Perhaps & wishful thinking on my part, there is a “Team Slate free, independent, no strings attached mayoral candidate” willing to step forward, vested in open door policies & morally encompassed governance. A breath of fresh air currently being smoke screened by our 2018 team slate coalitions and precarious team-like associations.
Coincidence… just published in the NSNews: https://www.nsnews.com/news/retired-businessman-kerry-morris-running-for-city-of-north-van-mayor-1.23403312
